As the new school year begins over the next couple weeks in the Panhandle, many are dealing with a shortage issue.

That would be bus drivers and, for some, monitors as well.

Borger ISD Transportation Director Robin Hudgens said recently her district’s shortage in both areas has forced it to shut down one special needs route. To help with the problem, some current drivers are taking on additional routes, which may cause some delays.

Meanwhile, the Sanford-Fritch ISD is combating the shortage problem by having two maintenance employees properly trained to safely transport students.

Both school districts say the number one priority is to ensure the safety of their students, as well as maintaining an open line of communication with parents during their routes.
