One Tascosa High School student and another person were detained Monday afternoon after they were spotted with a firearm on-campus.

Amarillo Independent School District stated that the two subjects were seen in the south parking lot across the street from the high school after class let out.

Police believe the weapon was brought to the parking lot by the other individual who was meeting the student.

A bus driver nearby saw the man holding the weapon and called the authorities.

Other campus staff members assisted as school liaison officers detained the subjects and recovered the weapon.

The district thanked the school personnel and liaison officers for their actions to resolve the situation quickly.

The district also issued the following statement in their release:

Safety is always our highest priority. As we have notified Tascosa parents earlier this evening, the protocols we have put in place and practiced, worked today just as they are supposed to

And “If you see something, say something.”
