Suspect Accused Of Trying To Remove Officer’s Gun From Holster Identified

The suspect in that early morning incident involving a good samaritan assisting a APD officer in Amarillo Friday has been identified as 36-year-old Lyle L. Youngs.
Youngs was pulled over by a motorcycle officer for a traffic violation in the area of Western and 34th. It was discovered that Youngs had a warrant and the officer attempted to place the suspect in custody.
Youngs broke free and, following a foot chase which ended in an alley in the area of the 3400 block of Janet, the officer and suspect went to the ground. Youngs attempted to remove the officer’s weapon from its holster when it discharged a single round, grazing the officer’s leg.
A citizen was able to help the officer subdue Youngs until backup arrived.
Youngs has been booked into the Randall County Detention Center and charged with Attempted Capital Murder if a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, Evading Arrest/Detention, False ID Fugitive From Justice, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and traffic violations.
