Suspect Arrested In City’s Latest Homicide

One man is in the morgue and one is behind bars after a shooting Sunday night.

The Amarillo Police Department was sent to a bar in the 2800 block of Amarillo Boulevard East  Sunday at 10:20 p.m. on the report of a shooting.  

Once on scene, they found the victim, deceased, on the floor.

Police learned the suspect and the victim had been in an argument, and the suspect left but returned a short time later and shot and killed the victim.  

The victim is identified as Jose Gerardo Morales Zavala, male, age 31, and his family has been notified. 

The suspect was located at his home and taken into custody after a short standoff, without incident by Amarillo PD  Critical Incident Response Team.  

18-year-old Daniel Martinez was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Murder and this case is assigned to the Amarillo PD Homicide Unit and the investigation is ongoing.
