The Barfield Hotel Opens With Façade Grant From Center City

After 30 plus years of sitting vacant, The Barfield Hotel is now open for business.

Originally built in 1927 by Melissa Dora Oliver-Eakle, the new luxury hotel at 6th and Polk Street with a fine dining restaurant, speakeasy and a cigar room.

Along with the Grand Opening, The City of Amarillo presented the hotel with a façade Grant for $20,000 to help pay for the distinctive Art Deco-themed signs at the hotel.

Beth Duke, Executive Director of Center City of Amarillo, “The Barfield is one of downtown’s most historic skyscrapers. Now it has a new life as a luxury hotel that will welcome visitors for years to come,”.

Since 1996, Center City has invested more than $1.3 million in façade grants in downtown.
