Tuesday Morning Structure Fire

Amarillo firefighters came upon a structure fire at 401 South Rusk Street, Tuesday, morning.

The first units arrived and found the single-story residence fully involved in flames with the fire quickly approaching the house next door.

The occupant of the house made it out safely without injury and was checked by paramedics on the scene but reduced transport to a hospital.

An Amarillo police officer helped the next-door neighbors out of their homes. He then transported himself to  Northwest Texas Hospital and was treated for smoke inhalation. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

This is the third time in the last month AFD respond to this residence.

The last two fires were ruled accidental due to the occupant of the house using a makeshift wood-burning stove.
