Two Women Killed in Childress Auto Crash

Two Childress women were killed, with another injured in a Childress auto wreck Thursday afternoon.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers say at 1:10 p.m. a Toyota Tundra was stopped at the divided highway stop sign at U.S. 287, seven miles northwest of Childress.
The driver of the car proceeded over the southbound lanes to travel northbound on 287, but did not yield the right-of-way, and pulled out onto the highway in the path of a pick-up truck.
Trying to hit the brakes in time, the driver of the Tundra,85-year-old Frances Woodward couldn’t do so to avoid the crash with the pickup.
Woodward was pronounced dead at the scene, while her passenger 84-year-old Mary Watts was airlifted to an Amarillo Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
The pickup driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The wreck is still under investigation.
