Wednesday Sports Update – Astros Take Down Rangers

(Houston, TX) — Justin Verlander allowed four singles and struck out eight over six scoreless innings to win his 19th as the Astros beat the Rangers 4-1 in Houston. Texas starter Lance Lynn yielded four runs over seven innings and is winless since August 2nd when he picked up his 14th win. Nomar Mazara homered in the seventh for the Texas run. The Rangers have lost four in a row.

Allard Will Start Tonight Against Astros

Cowboys Hosting Dolphins On Sunday

(Frisco, TX) — The Cowboys will return to the practice field today to begin preparing for the Miami Dolphins. Dallas will host the Dolphins on Sunday at AT&T Stadium. Texans Changing Punters, Prepare For Chargers

(Houston, TX) — The Texans are changing punters for Week Three. Houston released Trevor Daniel, who has been inconsistent, and re-signed Bryan Anger to replace him. The Texans kept Daniel over Anger in preseason competition. The Texans return to practice today to prepare for a Sunday game at the LA Chargers.

Giants Bench Manning For Rookie Jones

(East Rutherford, NJ) — The New York Giants are benching starting quarterback Eli Manning in favor of rookie Daniel Jones. Jones was the sixth-overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft out of Duke and played well during the preseason. Manning is a two-time Super Bowl MVP, but has just eight wins in his last 33 starts. The 0-and-2 Giants visit Tampa Bay Sunday.

Veterans To Report To Rockets’ Mini-Camp In Vegas

(Las Vegas, NV) — Veterans Corey Brewer, Raymond Felton, Nick Young and Terrence Jones will reportedly be at a Rockets’ mini-camp in Vegas to audition for jobs. Houston has only nine fully guaranteed contracts, plus eight on temporary deals. The Rockets will play their first preseason game on September 30th against the Shanghai Sharks in Houston.

Stars Beat Wild In OT

(St. Paul, MN) — Justin Dowling scored with 85 seconds into overtime as the Stars beat the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in St. Paul. Roope Hintz had the other Dallas goal. The Stars will meet the Avalanche tomorrow night in Denver. The Stars will play seven exhibition games before opening the season on October 3rd against the Bruins in Dallas.

Wings Will Pick Second In 2020 Draft

(Undated) — The Dallas Wings will have the second overall pick in the WNBA 2020 draft. The New York Liberty will have the first choice with the draft lottery announced. The Wings and Liberty finished with the same record, 10-and-24. Indiana will have the third pick and Atlanta, which had the worst record at 8-and-26, owns the fourth selection. The WNBA draft will be April 12th.

Unbeatens SMU, TCU Meet Saturday

(Fort Worth, TX) — SMU is off to a 3-and-0 start for the first time since 1984. The Mustangs won their first four that year, a feat they will try to duplicate when they play Saturday at rival TCU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet. The Frogs are also unbeaten, coming off a 34-14 victory at Purdue. TCU has won the last seven matchups against SMU, scoring at least 42 points in five of them..
