Local businesses looking to become more energy-efficient only have to look to West Texas A&M University.

The College of Engineering recently won a $250,000 Rural Energy America Program (REAP) grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is offering free assistance for Panhandle area business owners to become more energy efficient.

The REAP grant helps agriculture producers and rural small businesses to build new facilities that utilize wind or solar energy, or to renovate existing structures.

The REAP grant helps agriculture producers and rural small businesses to build new facilities that utilize wind or solar energy, or to renovate existing structures.

The Joint created project was put together so engineering students would be able to provide energy modeling as the critical first step for their clients interested in a wind or solar project.

The grant allows WT’s engineering students to model energy usage and help companies decide the optimal size of their project.

Area businesses seeking a REAP grant have two 2024 application deadlines: June 30 and September 30.
