Sampling has always been a part of the hip-hop culture and is an art form WE truly appreciate.

DJ Khaled recently dropped his long-awaited album “Father of Asahd”. On the album are plenty of hits, features, and samples. One of the stand-out tracks is “You Stay”. It is a collaboration between DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, Jeremih, J. Balvin and Lil Baby. On the track, the artists ponder why their significant other decides to stay with their respective man when she is treated poorly. If the track sounds familiar, well its because it used to distinct samples, one of which we are going to look at.

“No Way Out” is the debut studio album from Puff Daddy and was released on July 1, 1997. On there is a track called “Señorita” which has the iconic sound you hear in DJ Khaled’s song. The album also saw widespread critical success, with Puff Daddy winning the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

With Diddy and Khaled being so close, it’s great to see their friendship allow for these sounds continue to influence today’s music.
