Texas Tech Soccer returns home for Houston & Coaching for Literacy Match

LUBBOCK, Texas – After a three-game cross country road trip, Texas Tech returns home for a Thursday night matchup with in-state foe Houston. Kickoff from the John Walker Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m.

Thursday will serve as soccer’s Coaching for Literacy match. Fans can earn free entry into the match with a book donation.

The Red Raiders (1-2-3) return home after earning a draw against Saint Mary’s on Saturday. Tech’s defense has remained the bright spot throughout the season, having allowed three goals this season and pinning opponents to an average of 6.0 shots a match.

Scouting the Cougars
Houston checks into the weekend at 2-2-1 under first-year head coach Jaime Frias. In their last match, the Cougars defeated Rice, 3-1 with goals from midfielder Cordelia Cross, forward Nadia Kamassah and defender Emma Clarke.

This season marks the 15th season that the Red Raiders have been playing at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech is just two wins shy of its 100th win at the Walker.
Texas Tech has taken 36 more shots than its opponents. On average, Tech is holding opponents to 6.0 shots per contest while firing off 12.0 shots.
After leading the team with nine assists a year ago, Macy Blackburn picked up right where she left off, tallying two against Troy in the opener and one against New Mexico. She has all three assists on Tech’s three goals.
While Macy Blackburn has tallied the helper in all three of Tech’s goals, the goal has been scored by three different Red Raiders. Charlotte Teeter, Ashleigh Williams and Macy Schultz all have a goal on the season.
Madison White enters the season ranked fourth in Tech’s career goals against record (0.91), third in career shutouts (20) and seventh in career saves (153).
The Red Raiders boast a young roster with the addition of 10 freshmen. Freshman Kylie Bahr is the only freshmen to have started every game so far this season while freshman Peyton Parsons has split starts with junior Jillian Martinez in the midfield.
This season’s captains are super senior Charlotte Teeter and fourth-year senior Hannah Anderson. Teeter opened up her last season as a Red Raider with a goal in the opener against Troy.
The Red Raider backline and goalie Madison White have been the highlight of the season thus far. Tech has allowed just three goals this season and recorded a trio of shutouts.
Excluding the 2020 conference only season due to COVID-19, Tech has recorded at least three shutouts through the opening six games in five straight seasons, dating back to 2017.
With just three matches to go before Big 12 play begins, Texas Tech ranks third in the conference averaging 5.67 corner kicks, first in goals-against average (.500), third in save percentage (.833) and third in shutout percentage (.500).
Individually, Madison White ranks first in the league in goalie minutes plater (540:00), first in goals-against average (0.500), third in save percentage (0.812) and second in shutouts (3).
